AN AUTHORITATIVE AND REPRESENTATIVE VOICE
The SADCLA is a voluntary association made up of law societies, bar associations and individual lawyers from the 15 member Southern African region.
The organization was formed in 1999 at an inaugural meeting that was held by SADC regional lawyers in Maputo, Mozambique. Since its formation, the organization has been involved in numerous activities at the regional and international levels to strengthen, defend and advance the rule of law in the SADC region and beyond.

The General Meeting is the governing body of the SADC Lawyers’ Association. This meeting exercises general control over the Association, along with other duties including the election of officers.
Programmes and Activities: The five programme areas that we focus on are Democracy and Governance, Rule of Law Human Rights, International Affairs and Organizational Development.
ADVANCING THE RULE OF LAW IN THE SADC REGION AND BEYOND
There cannot be rule of law in the absence of an independent judiciary in theory and practice. The SADCLA is the vehicle through which the legal profession from the SADC region collectively promotes justice, defends human rights, the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary and generally gives direction and control to the legal profession.
